“I wanted to create a space I would like to go,” Ann says. “A community gathering place to visit with other quilters, come with friends and sew for a while, learn something new, have a cup of coffee or a drink and browse through the quilt books for inspiration.”
Q.I.Y. will also take quilts on consignment. Those non-quilters looking for special gifts, like baby quilts, will have a place to shop.

When Ann Slanis, a former finance professional, passionate quilter and Copperas Cove alum, moved back to the area she realized there wasn’t a store nearby that had a good selection of fabric. The more people she talked to, the more she found that that there were quite a lot of quilters in the neighborhood. Once she decided she would open a fabric store to meet those needs, she expanded it to be something more.
